Starbucks: “I Want a Medium Coffee”

Today Jamie and I went to Starbucks for breakfast (if you can call any meal at 10am breakfast). Not personally a fan of coffee, though that is changing, Jamie assured me that they have good baked… uhhh… goods.

We approached the counter and Jamie said "I want a medium coffee." I became immediately excited, fearing that she was so tired she had just committed some sort of social faux pas: ordering "coffee" at Starbucks. My mind was screaming "That doesn't make sense! They don't sell just 'coffee' at Starbucks! You have to get like double mocha jabooka grandé latté frappucino with whipped cream, skim don't you?"

Apparently Starbucks also sells "just coffee." Oh, and their baked goods are far from good. Except that lemon pound cake.

  1. Here in Vienna (Austria), you can't order "just coffee" anywhere.

There's "cappuchino", "extended brown", "mocha", "espresso", and a few others I'd probably couldn't translate.

We also got some Starbucks here (for about a year now I think), but I've never been there, nor anyone I know. Those just don't fit into the local culture - you can get better coffee everywhere else.

  2. Wow, sweet. Starbucks is great, just for their cold drinks. But, you ordered medium coffee..aren't there like, some gay coffee terms for sizes? "Grande" etc. I always want to ask for a large but when I do that they respond with "Eh? Grande, you mean? Sure".

  3. Erik, you just aren't a true geek if you don't have true love for good java. Sheesh.

P.S. I DID order the Grande... But as insinuated above, Erik is not a java aficionado. 😛

  4. I agree totally--Starbucks's achilles heel is their food. It's terrible. If I was one of their competitors, I would attack that weakness.

  5. I like a Starbucks from time to time. Reminds me of my trip to the U.S.

  6. hi, the mocha valencia (chocolate orange) coffee is the best and the Lemon iced cake and the orange cranberry muffin is really good. otherwise the rest looks really dry!
