QotD: Sequels

Question: What is the best sequel ever?

My Answer: Y'know, I can't really say. Star Wars had bad sequels (2 and 5). Terminator 2 is a classic and may be up there. Hmm, yeah, I'm going to have to go with T2 for $200, Alec.

  1. Best sequel ever has to be Godfather 2. It's one of the top 5 movies every made, so it's hard to top it. Movies like T2, while being really good, just don't reach its level.

And episode 5 is a bad sequel? What are you smoking? Empire is the best of the series. I agree that 2 sucked ass and 1 was barely tolerable.

  2. I would go for the Godfather 2 too. I think it is simply the best sequel of all time. I watched it over and over again.

  3. The Two Towers. Or maybe Silence of the Lambs. Oh, are you talking movies? Hrm... Movie Sequels.... Aliens. I only consider GFII 1/2 a sequel, as all of the young Vito stuff was actually written in the original Godfather.

  4. Mosdef Aliens

  5. The Two Towers isn't a sequel, it's the second part of a story with three parts. Lord Of The Rings is the sequel of "Hobbit", if you want.

  6. Hands down, the best sequel of all time: The Godfather, Part II. No other sequel has done what that film did; surpass the original in storytelling and acting and to also win the best picture oscar. The only sequel ever to do so. (The Bells of St. Mary's came close, I think.)

Just a notch below, The Empire Strikes Back. Still is, the best of all Star Wars films and one of the best sequels of all time.

  7. I'm gonna go with Army of Darkness. It's technically Evil Dead 3 and, at least IMHO, a far more enjoyable flick than the first two. AoD is a classic that can be enjoyed over and over again for years to come.

  8. It's gotta be Aliens. Alien was a spectacular movie, but Aliens was one of the best action/sci-fi movies ever.

  9. T2 -- for generational reasons.

I'd also like to give a nod to Desperado, which is actually a sequel to El Mariachi.

Here's a list of the sequels that have outperformed the originals in terms of box office revenue.

  10. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

OK, not really, but if a criteria of a good sequel is that it is as good as or better than a good original, I think that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was one of the best.

  11. I'm going to have to say Toy Story II was at least as good as the first one, but I agree with a lot of the ones that have already been mentioned.
