QotD: Goodbyes

Question: What's the toughest goodbye you've ever had to make?

My Answer: Something tells me that the one later today may win, but until that happens, I'm going to have to go with saying goodbye to France and the people I met there in 1996. Time hasn't really done much to fade the feelings I had at the time, and I'm proud of that. But, like I said, the inside info points to today's being the eventual winner. I both dread (because I am leaving) and look forward to (because I get to see her again) that moment.

You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on your blog.

  1. QotD: Goodbyes

It wasn’t really made in person, but saying goodbye to one of my best friends.

  2. Don't laugh, but the toughest goodbyes I ever had to make were when Uru Live was about to be shut down. In case you're wondering what the heck that is/was, Uru Live was the multi-player online portion of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, a game released late last year by Ubi Soft (the developer was of course Cyan Worlds). Even though the community was too small to sustain the multi-player game, it was amazingly tight-knit. Many Myst fans who came together in the context of Uru Live are still friends via message boards, chat rooms, e-mail, phone, whatever. Our interactions in-game formed unbelievable bonds that still remain months later. The farewells we made that last night before the servers were shut down were truly heartbreaking.

The edges between virtual worlds and the "real" world are indeed blurring at an incredible rate.
