QotD: Mini Stores

Question: What do you think of Apple's new mini stores?

My Answer: I think they'll be a great way to get into smaller malls and whatnot without the expense of the standard 30' store. And, given my past with Apple and retail, I'll leave it at that and simply read your thoughts.

I do think that the communicators sound pretty spiffy. Oh, and from that same article, those Dell stores are a joke.

  1. I think it's great to see Apple Retail being such a large success. It's also surprising, considering how Dell, Gateway and others failed with it, and major retail chains seem to be in financial struggles.

"given my past with Apple and retail" You left Apple?

  2. Yes, on April 15. And then Carey emailed me on the 20th. And now I live in PA because of it all. Great timing.

  3. i think the mini stores are a good idea. It's probably the only way Colorado Springs might ever see anything like an Apple retail store. (going to Denver to hit the apple store isn't that bad, but i'd rather not drive for over an hour just to check out the look and feel of a new product.)

I dont think the Airport's-selling-iPods thing will work that well... unless there's a good way to put some music on the iPod before your flight.

  4. I usually have at least an hour, often two, before a flight. Perhaps a locally served ITMS... or at least, setting up traveler laptops with a blessed version of iTunes. But what if they were selling tunes when Paul McCartney stopped through on a flight?

The Mini-Store is one way to make the Apple stores as present as they need to be. Those laughable Dell Kiosks are, by comparison, everywhere, with lower overhead.

    Anyone for The Apple-Cart?

The U2 iPods, which will be pre-loaded with a bunch of U2 albums, might suggest a move in this direction.

I was thinking they should make WiFi iPods with an interface to the iTunes store.

Then you could buy songs and download them to your iPod, directly, wherever there's a hotspot. Not so good for a massive initial load of music, but a nice way to make new music accessible away from the computer.

  6. Apple's "Mini" Stores

From nslog(): Question: What do you think of Apple's new mini stores? Well, they're cool and all, but I'll like them a lot better if there is one nearby. I live in an incredibly disheartening Apple-store free zone. The nearest...
