QotD: Diets

Question: Are you on a diet?

My Answer: Something like 87% of all Americans are on a diet? I don't know anyone on a diet. Not a specific diet, or anything that varies from normal eating. No carb-counting, no Weight Watchers. Nothing. (No, I'm not on a diet.)

You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on your blog.

    Erik asks,

  2. To me, diet is a life decision, not a temporary change in habits. I used to have a small weight problem (30 lbs over - noticeable, but not horrible) and decided to fix the problem by changing my lifestyle - with the help of Weight Watchers. Mrs. Eagle & I also changed to organic food where possible (I like only American cheese, which isn't really cheese), and we eat much less ice cream and drink much less soda. We've both been much healthier as a result of these simple changes. Also, as a result, I can now eat whatever I want whenever I want, and I don't have to worry about weight gain. I really believe it is all about self control and moderation - once one learns those two things WRT food intake, there's nothing to worry about. It's very freeing.

  3. i dont know anyone on a diet, though my roomates often say "i shouldn't eat that" but then do anyway.

  4. I'm on a diet. I'm doing Atkins right now. I lost 32 pounds last time I did it (took about 4 months), then I went off it for a year and gained about 12 back. So I'm going back on it to lose the rest and get to my ideal weight.

The thing that's nice about Atkins is that you can kind tailor it to what kind of thing you want to happen. If you want to lose weight, there is a certain level of strictness you need to uphold, but if you're maintaining weight, you can loosen it up, and it'll do that for you.

I'm also on a permanent ban of sugared soda. I drink tons of soda, so I have to drink diet or I'll blow up like a balloon. I know I could just cut soda entirely, but I don't want to. Not yet, anyhow.
