According to Adobe's CameraRaw page, "Adobe expects to offer preliminary support for the Canon Rebel XT and the Nikon D2X in early May".

It is reasons like this that Adobe created the DNG format for storing raw images. If camera manufacturers supported DNG in their cameras, then any of the apps that support reading DNG files (more and more raw-supporting apps are starting to add DNG support) would be able to handle the files from new cameras automatically when they come out.

I still don't understand this whole RAW problem, but since I don't even have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements - I use PhotoStudioX - and since iPhoto 05 still doesn't support the Rebel XT's RAW format, I'm guessing I'll need to shoot in JPEG mode when I finally get my Rebel XT.

So, yes, I have started saving for one - I hope to get it within 3-4 months. I just hope I enjoy having an SLR more than I enjoy talking about having an SLR... :-/
