Other Home Purchases Today: Lawnmower, Washer, Dryer

ToroIn addition to the Dyson DC15 we bought today, Carey and I spent a bit of money in some other stores.

We went to Home Depot first, despite not having a 10% off coupon. Having read Consumer Reports, we were there to get a Lawn Boy or a Toro lawnmower. CR recommended a $399 Toro or a $360 Lawn Boy. The Toro had an electric start, and one without electric start cost the same as the Lawn Boy, so we got it. The Toro 20017 "Recycler" is a "personal pace" rear-wheel drive mower with a "guaranteed to start" engine, three cutting options (mulch, side, rear/bag), 6.5 horsepower, and an extra year warranty to extend it to three. Whoopty doo. We'll mulch or side discharge, and half the lawn at the new home is actually covered over in rocks or wood chips. This mower should last a loooong time.

Next, we went to Lowe's to pick up a washer and a dryer, again using a 10% off coupon. We were still undecided between the Bosch Nexxt series and the Whirlpool Duet. I was leaning towards the Bosch and Carey was leaning towards the Whirlpool. The helpful lady at Lowe's (contrary to the last two times we were there) answered a few of our questions and we both leaned towards the Whirlpool. She mentioned that she had the $1399 washer (as opposed to the $1099 washer we were looking at). I said "if we buy the $1300 washer today, will you throw in your service plan free?" She said "no, but we do have the matching dryer for $300 off."

Sold.

Carey and I will take delivery of a pewter colored GHW9400P washing machine and a matching GGW9250P dryer on June 12 (or earlier, if we move up the date). With our purchase, we get a rebate on delivery as well as a "three-year supply of Tide HE." We figure we'll probably do a load of laundry every other day, so it'll be interesting to see what a "three-year supply" is.

We also picked up a 40L Whirlpool dehumidifier. Whoopty doo.

  1. Nice score. I picked up the Toro last year based on their recommendations and it has worked really well. The electric start is really nice. Just don't forget to run Sta-bil fuel stabilizer through the engine at the end of the season. I didn't and couldn't get it to start until I got some new "fresh" gas.

We also picked up almost the same washer and dryer combo. We bought last years Kenmores as I said before and they've worked well.

  2. They say that getting married and buying a house are some of the most stressful things you can do. Carey and I eliminated the stress in getting married by doing it on the cheap and easy, but we knew that...

  3. I filled in some of the holes in our lawn today with dirt and seed - the trenches left over from the truck that delivered wood for the pool room several months ago. Now I'm waiting for the rain to...
