Nintendo rules. Even if this controller and their system sucks horribly I still give them credit for thinking creatively, taking risks, and working to expand all of our horizons.

If this move works well Microsoft will do it's thing which is essentially... copy it and make it somehow "more powerful," and Sony will as well, but try to make it "stylish, expensive, and feature-full." Sony already tried to make moves on Nintendo's lockdown on GameBoy, and I hear they are making a much more similar iPod knockoff to take away some of Apple's 80%+ market share of Digital Music players.

I was shocked, confused and extremely disappointed yesterday morning when I first saw the controller pics on Nintendo's press pages. But after I saw the video from Iwata's keynote and read a few interviews I think I finally get it. The kids are extremely enthusiastic about what they saw and I think I will be too, once I try it out. My main concern was playing 3rd party ported titles but with the "classic" shell that shouldn't be a problem. Looking forward to the Revolution!

cant really say until i've used it.

I've always felt like Nintendo's controllers were the most responsive, best laid out, most comfortable controllers of any given generation, and so i trust these wont be as bad as people are already assuming. (though i cant be sure)

Mario Part Revolution (if they use that terrible game naming crap) will be fun as hell, and a lot more interesting. :)

i'm excited.

unless they've changed things since E3, it has gamecube controller ports. (good, given that it supports Gamecube games)

also, they've said they plan to have a controller "shell" which fits around this new controller and provides a gamecube-like controller.

I don't see a problem.

At least now we know how Duck Hunt is going to work. :-) (they're supposedly going to make lots of old NES, SNES, and N64 games available to download for the Revolution. I hope Mario All Stars on the SNES is available .. I'd buy that one!)

This controller should be perfect for NES games. Rotate 90 degrees. D-pad on left, A and B on the right, select and start in the middle. Perfect. (except they need to do something about the power button, to let us avoid hitting it while in NES mode.)

it definitely needs the shell for SNES and GCN games, though. I wonder if they'll make a separate N64-style shell for N64 emulation, or whether they'll continue to map it onto GCN-style controls.

Haha it's a wireless corded gaming remote? Hopefully I can use a Gamecube controller, since that is still the best out there.

First of all, nothing's saying you can't also use the Gamecube controllers (or some new traditional ones) to play with in some games.

Furthermore, there hasn't been any games designed for this kind of controller, and noone's actually held one yet. Maybe it will be miles better than a traditional controller once you're used to it. (Then again, maybe it sucks.) I'm just feeling sorry for the players with Parkinson's disease.

I don't have the coordination to mash lots of buttons at the same time. (I like to play Sonic, since that only has one button.) This new controller looks great. :-)

http://www.irwebcasting.com/050916/03/ff3672f7df/main/index_hi.htm explains what they're thinking pretty well. Anyone who hasn't bought into video games yet won't buy in once they're 10% prettier. You've gotta change the nature of the game instead. So, they tried making it look like a remote, since people are comfortable with that.
