The Pattern Maker does suck. Why isn't there anything in photoshop that creates SEAMLESS backgrounds?

I'll try the offset trick mentioned here, sounds like a good workarouund.

But really, Photoshop Pattern Maker is useless.

Real items , such as scanned felt, do not work well when making seamless patterns. Man made cloth has too many variations for the pattern makers to handle, leaving a faint checkerboard pattern when tiled. You might have be better results making a simulated felt texture.

Johan, that's what I did:

I did better myself making a 4x4 grid of the images and using the stamp tool to copy portions to cover up some of the lines (but it still wasn't usable).

It still didn't work.

...there's something called Pattern Maker now?

Here's my tried and true method for simple patterns.

New image, 128x128 or something. Do whatever it takes to make your basic image.

Then offset the image by 64x64 using the Offset filter (or whatever it's called nowadays.) Now the old borders form a cross in the middle of the image. Use the clone stamp to erase the cross, and you're done.
