Don Yacktman Update

Just an update from my previous post on the new (if nearly a year old is still "new") owner of Freshly Squeezed Software.

In addition to some legal issues between he and a former partner, Don became ill and had a few other things all go wrong at the same time. I was able to reach him on his cell phone today (the number to which he's authorized me to give out to those who need to speak with him) and had a five-minute conversation.

He'll be resuming full development duties shortly. Brad and I were just about ready to start hacking away at PulpFiction again for our own needs (namely, Atom 1.0 support and a memory leak introduced in 1.2.2).

Update: The "legal issues" I referred to above should not be construed as "problems." Don's (former?) partner in illumineX, Gary Longsine, responds in a comment below. Don used the phrase "legal issues" in my conversation with him, so I'm loosely quoting him above.

Update Two: I believe the "legal issues" Don referred to were related to the sale of FSS from illumineX to Don himself.

  1. I've been trying to find some information about PulpFiction for a quite a while now and was glad to see this post. I've been without an RSS reader for over a week now and there's been nobody there to make it go for me (need the registration info I purchased). You don't realize how much you use such a thing in your job until someone takes it away from you.

If you can help to communicate that people really like this product and are not only willing to, but have actually paid for it, hopefully that can help get the process flowing again. I suppose $25 is only worth so much, though.

Thanks for communicating the status, anyway.

  2. Thanks for the update - I've been trying to attract somebody's attention about MailDrop for more than a month now.

  3. Thank you for the update post. I was wondering why Recent Tunes was not updated for a long period but now I understood the situation.

Hope his illness and troubles will pass soon. 🙂

  4. I have a 96-minute MP3 from the 2004 O'Reilly Mac OS X conference in which Brent Simmons says "NetNewsWire Sucks, PulpFiction is the Bomb!" It occurs at 42:35, for those who have the MP3, and I'll spare you the full-length...

  5. I was surprised to discover this blog entry today, which clearly refers to me, as I am the only former business associate involved in these matters.

For the record, there have been no "legal issues" between us, nor have there been any issues of any kind which would restrict in any way the ability of the new owner to engage in the business of Freshly Squeezed Software.

    Kind regards,

    /gary

  6. Don Yacktman's freshsqueeze.com servers are down. It would be fascinating to find out why he bought and then slowly destroyed a company with several very popular products and a great reputation.
