America is too stupid, apparently, for intelligent shows. Look what happened to Sports Night.
As a big Sports Night fan, I could not agree more...

Studio 60 was one of the very few shows I watch on network TV besides 24 (I watch The Shield but that's on FX). I now more likely to just go out and purchase the shows I use to enjoy rather than sit through the mind-numbing crap the studios are putting out now. I just can't believe they are pulling it to be replaced by another "reality" show.
The last NBC has said was that the show was profitable.
Wow, I am shocked that it was making money! I just went and double checked, and found something that said it was taking in the neighborhood of 2-3 million dollars per episode to produce, which is quite a lot of money for a show that isn't in the top 5 or 10 shows on television.
What they didn't say was that crap TV is more profitable.
And, we won't know if it is or it isn't until after the season is all said and done.

Well, I hope they find a way to put it back on the air, improve the writing a bit, and they would have a hit on their hands.

Studio 60 had a brilliant pilot episode, and then fell off *hard*. I watched it, and am a little disappointed that it won't be returning, but I honestly can't blame them. Its probably a very expensive show to produce, and people were not watching it. NBC probably made the right decision from a business perspective by not bringing back Studio 60.

That being said, the replacement doesn't sound all that exciting, but I bet its cheap to produce and will attract at least the same size audience as Studio 60 did.

I only watch about 2 or 3 shows a week, and Studio 60 was my favorite. When I realized that it wasn't coming back, my first thought was they should make it an iTunes-only show and let me pay $1.99 for it every week. I wonder if it has a large enough fan base to support that.

Frankly, I've been unimpressed by Sorkin's shows. They just leave me flat. And don't get me started on J.J. Abrams. There's a whole lot of nothing pretending to be complex and deep.
However, if you must give up on NBC, at least don't give up on Heroes, which is probably the best comic book TV series ever made.
Maybe Sorkin will get a show picked up by HBO or Showtime.
I'd pay $12/month (DirecTV's rates, I think) just to watch one of Sorkin's shows three or four times per month.

I've been hitting The Futon Critic about once a week to see if they've put it back on the schedule.

America is too stupid, apparently, for intelligent shows. Look what happened to Sports Night. The West Wing clearly was a fluke. Maybe Sorkin will get a show picked up by HBO or Showtime. They seem to be more tolerant of intelligent material rather than "OMG! 5.9 million people watched it this week. Last week it was 6.0! CANCEL CANCEL!"
