Bad WPXI, Bad!

The final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship (a PGA Tour event) is being played today. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson play in the penultimate group and NBC is providing coverage at 2pm… except on WPXI out of Pittsburgh. Yesterday, a chiron ticker informed viewers that they should check channels 3, 11, 14, or 21 on Comcast for coverage of the golf tournament as WPXI would be showing the Jerry Lewis Telethon instead.

What DirecTV viewers are supposed to do is beyond me. We don't get channels 3, 14, or 21 - we get only channel 11 (both in high-def and standard). Perhaps they'll show golf on the high-def channel and the telethon on the standard channel.

I tried calling WPXI but was only able to get someone's voicemail. DirecTV can't send the generic NBCE feed to me (channel 82) because I don't have a waiver (because I've really got no need for one and can receive local programming just fine). So… 😛

Update: It's going to be shown on WBGN, apparently, which I don't get.

P.S. See, others weren't happy either.

  1. Don't get on WPXI for it. It's a tradition for them to carry the telethon.

I'm sure results are updated live on one of the many sports channels, perhaps even the Golf Channel. Or, I'm sure a restaurant/bar has DirecTV and has that on a channel.

WBGN is a local Pgh channel and is shown on Comcast cable systems on one of those channels you pointed out in your post (3, 11, 14 or 21).

I don't know where you live but maybe an old-school antenna will pick up WICU in Erie or the Youngstown or Altoona affiliate?

I don't care about tradition. They should be able to do something like show the NBC feed on their high-def channel and the telethon on their standard analog channel or something.

Yes, I can follow along live online, but that's hardly the point. There's a big difference between seeing the score at the end of the day and seeing how it all goes down.

Yes, WBGN is showing golf, but DirecTV doesn't carry WBGN.

Oddly, WICU is showing the freakin' Indians game. I can't pick up any other NBCs. 😛 Pfffffft.
