Also picked up a Time Capsule so that Carey can back up what is mostly "her" laptop. I doubt I'll use it because I don't think I can back up my main drive to one location (another internal hard drive) and back up a second internal drive (my ripped DVDs and other assorted media) to a second Time Machine drive.

* Could have gotten a SuperDrive, but always have a desktop for burning DVDs, so didn't see much point. You know, back in 2003.

  1. Man, I was SO hoping they would release a Hi-resolution screen for the 15". I've been waiting for this update to place my order, but now I'm thinking I better go with the 17" simply because I want the higher resolution display.

What are your thoughts on this?

    For you or for me?

Because my thoughts "for me" were, this morning, "dammit, I have to buy a 15". Why haven't they come out with something like the 12" I'm replacing?" 🙂 In other words, resolution of a portable isn't really a concern. I just try to balance power and size.

The 15" MBP is 1 x 14.1 x 9.6 (and 5.4 lbs) and the MB is 1.08 x 12.78 x 8.92 (5.0 lbs). Not enough of a size savings there to justify the weaker performance.

There's still no real 12" successor.

For you… I don't know. I wouldn't presume to know whether the added size of the 17" (and cost) is worth the resolution bump for you. I will say that most people who travel even a little with their 17" laptops tend to wish they had gotten a 15" instead. The ones who use them on a desktop like the 17".

  3. I want to use this as my primary (only) machine, moving from a Mac Pro. I wanted to retain some mobility by getting the 15", but I really want the higher resolution.

Torn, but since I spend 90% of my time at a desk I ordered the 17".

I just can't understand why there is not Hi-res option for the 15". Also why there is no 12" option.
