		<description>I once asked a pilot whether a cellphone did anything to the plane, and he flat out told me that there was no way in the world he would fly a plane if a cellphone could screw with it.

The purpose is completely what you say - so that people will pay attention to the flight attendants.  Nothing more, nothing less.</description>
