Mac OS X Lion

http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/

Looking forward to:

  • Mission Control (Spaces Done Better?)
  • Gestures
  • Auto Save (not much)
  • Versions (a little)
  • Resume (nice)

Don't really care about:

  • App Store
  • LaunchPad
  • Full-Screen Apps (care a little)
  • Mail 5 (eh, whatevs)
  • AirDrop (isn't this just the public drop box?)
  • FileVault

  1. Looking forward to

anything has to better than spaces

I always thought scrolling down to go up was wrong - for 20 years!

    TextEdit already does - handy

    Memory hog - Version Cue?

Resume - if it works over a network, it won't - rescued items...?

    Don't really care about

It'll be the only to get Lion

Quicksilver - don't use that either

    Sparrow 1

    Airdrop - wireless Bonjour

    TrueCrypt

    Did I miss anything?

  2. I am not sure about the new Mail app. I tolerate the look of the mail app on the iPad, but I don't like it, and I do NOT want that for my desktop app. I still prefer the 3-pane look, and if Apple doesn't offer it, I will be keeping 10.6 or will be forced to buy a new mail application. 🙁

    1. You also have free alternatives out there.

  3. Ditto, Daniel.

  4. Mission Control is pretty darn cool. Big thumbs up from me.

Auto-save/Versions is weird, and will take some getting used to. (and it will be weird for the first year or two, where most 3rd party apps won't have adopted it yet, so we'll have a weird mix of auto-save and non-auto-save programs)

Launchpad is stupid. My iMac is not an iPad.

Mail 5.. I won't use the new layout (Again, my iMac isn't an iPad!) but unless Apple is extremely stupid, the old layout should be available. (Even if it ends up as an undocumented setting in the preferences plist, I can deal with that. But to be stuck with the iPad-like layout? Ugh.)
