Nye vs. Ham

Creation Debate Recap: Bill Nye Invites Us to Explore the World, Ken Ham Does Not

But what struck me more than anything about the debate between Ken Ham and Bill Nye was the very different posture each took toward the pursuit of knowledge and the virtue of curiosity.

More than once, Bill Nye addressed the audience directly, urging them to get out there and explore the universe for themselves. "Let's keep looking," he said. "Let's keep searching."

If Ken Ham had a recurring catchphrase during the debate, it was, "There's a book about that, and it already has the answers."

    1. JW, that's not a comment, it's a link. If you have something to say, please say it.

And I disagree with one of the first sentences:
An event such as this gives the non-believing community the impression that Ham’s creation model is representative of all Christian scholarship on the matter, and that to be a “biblical” Christian rather than a “compromising” Christian (to use Ham’s rhetoric), you must believe the earth is about 6,000 years old, universal common descent is false, and Noah’s flood explains most of geology and paleontology.
No, I don't think it does.

I should have formulated the reference as a comment. My apologies.

I consider that to be good news and hope that's true. I find that most non-Christians who speak up on the matter tend to believe Christians do hold the young-earth view. Given the promotion it had and the popularity it seemed to muster, I think an event like the Nye/Ham debate could easily perpetuate that idea. My intent was merely to note that Ham's view is not the same as that of Classical Christianity, and there are many Christians who would not choose someone like Ken Ham to represent the Christian view in such a debate.
