In case you haven't noticed, I've been a bit apathetic lately in blogging. Actually, a mild case of apathy has met with spring weather (i.e. "Erik is out golfing and reviewing golf equipment a lot") and a few little projects here and there.
As such, I've started several little entries, but never gotten around to finishing [...]

Latest pet peeve: websites that lack a "notify me of follow-up comments" functionality.
I have one installed here and at The Sand Trap and virtually every other site I manage.
If you're using WordPress, I recommend Subscribe to Comments.

Global Warming: Fact or Fiction? Fact Fiction Undecided View Results
Golf Digest published a series of articles and interviews in its May issue under the "How Green is Golf?" heading. It's come under fire (and received some support) as noted here and here.

The Democracy (voting) plugin needs an update from 2.0.1 for WordPress 2.5. The un-edited 2.0.1 leaves a lot of "n" characters (presumably from the "\n" characters in the source files) in posts. Per the later comments on the page, removal of all "\n" from the two files class.php and democracy.php is a temporary work-around.
Here's to [...]

This bug has not been fixed in WordPress 2.5. The TRAC ID 5793 hasn't been touched for awhile either, unfortunately.

I adore my Canon 5D, but at the same time, my 70-200 2.8L IS would be a 320 2.8L IS on the long end with a 1.6x crop camera. If I had an extra $1500 and nothing better to buy, I'd add a 40D in a heartbeat for the extra speed and reach if nothing [...]

The Photo Battle Blog keeps a simple table that contains the IP address, the vote choice ("1" or "2"), and the post_id.
I'd like to add a feature to the plugin that drives the entire process that allows me to get some statistics. I've already written up the code to generate the easy statistic: total votes [...]

Sometimes I just want to view all the comments on a particular entry. Why does WordPress make this so damn difficult? I swear, as soon as I figure it out this time, I'm editing my templates to make the URL a one-click type of thing. The only place this URL is given to you is [...]

The Photo Battle Blog now has a sidebar item. Of course, you can also subscribe to the feed to be notified daily of new battles.
In Cyndicate I recommend turning the "display linked content" option on, as the daily battles are generated via plugin and the feed is, thus, rather bare. It still serves as a [...]

Over at the Photo Battle Blog (please visit and subscribe!), I've set every post to show up at midnight: 00:00:00 (with the corresponding 05:00:00 GMT). Unfortunately, WordPress doesn't seem to care for that.
I first saw the problem yesterday (or the day before), and thought that perhaps the "all zeroes" was wigging WordPress out. So, I [...]

The (in)famous "Plane on a Conveyor Belt" experiment was run last night on MythBusters and, as physics dictates, the plane takes off.
That was a terrible experiment. The whole basis for the myth was that the airplane could take off from a treadmill traveling at the same speed as the aircraft. Unfortunetly during their testing they [...]

The Quoter plugin for WordPress has served me well for quite some time, but it has a bug.
If I simply type <blockquote><p>something here</p></blockquote> in the comments, Quoter incorrectly adds an attribute line (i.e. "Erik J. Barzeski said...").
I've spent a little time looking at the code, but I haven't yet figured out how to solve this, [...]

I've never really allowed anonymous comments. This pretty much sums it up.

Since shortly after MarsEdit 2.0's release, I switched to using it as my primary blog editor, occasionally substituting only the web interface on my primarily MarsEdit-powered blogs.
However, I grew increasingly annoyed at several of MarsEdit's "issues" and have been using ecto 3.0 betas rather comfortably for well over a month now.
MarsEdit can't handle things like [...]
