BetterWPMail

BetterWPMail

I wrote BetterWPMail because I didn't like the look of the emails WordPress sends you when someone adds a comment. You receive two types of emails: notification and moderation.

This plugin cleans up the look of both, adds a few helpful URLs (like an "Edit" link in the "moderation" emails), and is minutely faster due to one less MySQL call. This plugin operates by overriding two of the "pluggable" functions, wp_notify_postauthor() and wp_notify_moderator().

Download

This plugin has no warranty. That being said, I've been using it for a few weeks without problems. You may not like how the emails look, but I find them a bit more palatable.

Installation and Use

  1. Download (and unzip if necessary) the file you'd like.
  2. Name the file "BetterWPMail.php" and upload the file to your /wp-content/plugins folder.
  3. Activate the plugin.
  4. Enjoy!

  1. Is there a way to have not just a delete link, but a "this is spam" link?

I don't think I've ever seen such a link in WordPress. If you can tell me the format, it's a cinch to add. Either Akismet catches things or I delete them. I don't think there's a "mark this as spam" link.

  3. Version 0.11 is now available. I cleaned up and shortened some of the URLs and added a link or two to the emails (like "Edit" to the moderate email).

  4. On the moderate screen there is a "This is Spam" button (I think).

That appears to be true. But when chosen it generates a URL like this: http://nslog.com/wp-admin/moderation.php?ignored=0&deleted=0&approved=0&spam=1. It doesn't seem to contain a comment ID or anything.

For the few that slip through, perhaps just deleting them will do.

  6. Updated for WordPress 2.1. No longer works with WordPress 2.0.x.

  7. Thanks for this cool plugin!

Luckily I also archived 0.2 as I'm delaying upgrading to WP2.1 for a few weeks. Maybe an alternative download link for other slowcoaches? Seems a tad quick to deprecate 😉

    Oh and v small/extremely picky typo - v0.3 should be dated 2007.

    Thanks once again though!
