Racquetball in Erie?

This winter, I had hoped to join a racquetball league during the day to stay in shape, stay busy, and stay active. I can't golf much, after all, and traditional winter sports don't appeal to me.

I first stopped by Westwood Racquet Club on Zuck. They're tennis-only, and the only daytime leagues they offer are for women.

Nautilus Fitness and Racquet Club is $49 or $106/month (single, couples) for a two-year agreement. It's open 24 hours, and leagues run 8-9 weeks. One just started this week, so I'd have to wait until the next set.

Needless to say, I'm disappointed. I don't want to use any of the other Nautilus facilities (pools, weight rooms, etc.) and the only "racquet" club in Erie is for tennis only. I played tennis, but ever since dislocating my shoulder my serve has been, well, it's not something I'd really feel like displaying on a regular basis. I dislocated my shoulder playing racquetball, but that was during a time when my shoulder was quite loose to begin with, and I made a bad pass at the ball. Either way, racquetball has far less "over the head" swings than tennis.

At any rate, I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. It appears as though I'm stuck - I'd prefer not to play tennis and Nautilus doesn't have any "racquetball only" programs.

Harumph.

  1. How on earth can Westwood RACQUET Club only have Tennis? Leave it to Erie

  2. Yeah, heaven forbid they call it a Tennis Club. 😛

  3. It might be worth it to check out the local college gyms as well. They sometimes offer reduced memberships as well as nice facilities and recreational leagues, I know at least we do at Allegheny.
