QotD: Favorite Airport

Question: What is your favorite airport into which to fly (or out of which to fly)?

My Answer: I don't have one. They all suck. 🙂 But I'm curious what others think. I don't do much air travel…

  1. Erie...I'm serious. It's small - no lines, no running to your gate or to get your luggage, no parking spots 3 miles away...

  2. Liverpool in the UK, just because it seems to be such as challenge for all the pilots I've had recently to land the plane without bouncing it on one wheel.

  3. Ever since the TSA came in and made "security" checkpoints horribly difficult to go through, I hate all airports.

But the one I despise the least has to be the Appleton, Wisconsin airport. It was truly a pleasure dealing with those people - even the TSA agents.

The one thing I can't stand is removing my shoes - I explicitly wear running shoes because they have no metal in them, and yet they make me take them off. At the Appleton airport there is a device you step on, and if your shoes make the device beep, you must remove your shoes - otherwise, you walk through. That, and the professionalism of the staff are why I like the Appleton airport.

  4. In my experience, the bigger the airport is, the worse it is to have to deal with. Dulles(DC), Logan(Boston), and O'Hare(Chicago) are all big pains in the butt when you have to make a connecting flight or some such. My favorite airport is in Manchester, New Hampshire. It's small, clean, attractive, and logically thought out.

  5. For a small airport, I'd have to say, Hamilton International in Ontario, Canada. Pretty hard to screw up gate 1 or 2.

For the larger, Charles de Gaulle in Paris.

  6. I've only been through 3 airports, so my choices are rather limited but of the 3 the one I liked best was the Narita airport in Tokyo, Japan.

  7. They all suck.

I agree! However, if I had to pick one I would choose Heathrow (London), because they have decent food options and a few useful shops (compared to any major US airport I've been through).

  8. I love Schiphol = Amsterdam airport. Though Schiphol is a big airport, those yellow big lovely signages designed by Paul Mijksenaar never get me lost.

  9. Any airport that has free WiFi and on-Airport car rental.
