iTunes 7 and Music Videos

I have a few music videos. Some I bought from iTunes, others I encoded myself from DVDs.

Aside from some Black Eyed Peas music videos (Dum Diddly, Pump It, and My Style) and a Death Cab for Cutie video (Soul Meets Body), which all show up in my "Movies" library, and my TV shows which show up in the "TV Shows" library, none of my music videos show up in the "Movies" library.

Why isn't there a separate "Music Videos" library and, given the lack of one, why don't my music videos show up in the "Movies" library?

Also, when I go to edit a music video (say, "Hips Don't Lie," which is oddly no longer listed in the iTunes Store), why does the "Video" tab let me set stuff like "Show" and "Season Number"? These have nothing to do with music videos. For awhile I thought my music videos had gone AWOL. Finding them is now very difficult at the very least.

  1. When I added a couple of music videos (not from the Store), they defaulted to being "movies." After changing this, I made a smart playlist for music videos. However, I still want my videos away from my music in a separate list.

  2. I had the same problem after upgrading to iTunes 7, but I just realized there is a Smart Playlist named "Music Videos" which lists them properly.

As far as I can tell I didn't create that Playlist so I assume it was iTunes 7 that created it.

It's still confusing to have video access spread over the whole left menu..

  3. I hope they fix this issue. It annoys me.

Like Fernando iTunes automatically created a smart playlist for my music videos, but I agree with your points 100%. There should be a Music Video library and they should fix the names of the fields on the video properties tab.

  4. It probably has to do with their filetypes. Removing them from iTunes and readding them might fix the issue too.

I have a couple non-audible audio books that were not showing up in the Audiobooks section. For some reason, iTunes only lists items in m4b (protected AAC) in it. My files were plain AAC. To get them to show up, I ran a script that changed the file type to m4b. They still didn't show up, so I copied the files to my desktop. Then add them back to iTunes. All show up correclty now but it was a pain in the ass. Apple should be listing anything with the genre Audiobook in it too.

  5. Brad, here's what I found doing as you suggest:

    1) The movie is added as a "movie." Yes.
    2) As soon as I choose "Music Video" from the info window's popup menu, it goes back to the same old place. Except…
    3) … instead of going back to my Bond > Classified folder (Bond is the band name - I tested using the "Explosive" video), the movie file remained in a folder named "Movies." Gag!!! No good at all, that.

I consider the experiment a failure.

  6. that was one of my critiques of iTunes 7... in your last post. 🙂

there absolutely needs to be a "music video" link (tab? category? thingy under "LIBRARY"?) it makes no sense at all not to have one.

  7. PS: i'd rather have (at least the option of having) my Music Videos totally separate from my music, in a "Music Videos" folder. i have ALL the songs for all the videos, so why would i want essentially a duplicate song in my library that loads slower and has a video playing when i'm playing all my MUSIC on shuffle?

yeah, so er, i feel ya.

  8. Same happened here, so why the $%&# does my iPod has the Music Videos subfolder and not iTunes?

If someone finds a way, don't forget to post.

  9. Right click the file, get info, Video Tab (at the top), Change Video Kind to "Music Video"! DONE! What sux? U can't change multiple files!!! U have to do one at a time! Now that sux!

Stewy, your reading comprehension module is broken. Try a reboot.

  11. I changed the Video Kind to "Music Video" but where does it go after that? It just disappears and now I can't delete any of them, so i'm stuck with them!

  12. I have tried that too... It didn't work, it wont show the file under Music Video

  13. Thank u stewy c it really does work everyone should do it if they r having troubles

  14. kaitlen first u have to create a new smart playlist that has the specifics and tiltle of music video it will automaticaly put ehm in there then u can view and delete them

  15. This is retarded.
I have a bunch of music videos encoded in ipod format.
I tried 'dragging and dropping' the music videos into the "Music Videos" Smart playlist that it created.
I was hoping they would all be tagged as "music videos", but ITUNES7 will NOT even let you do that.

    Bottom line:
-Music videos should be in the LIBRARY not the PLAYLIST.
-Music videos should have a subcategory in the LIBRARY, just like the Movies and the TV Shows do.

itunes software people are seriously slacking.
They took itunes6 that had no problems and made itunes7 which happens to be worse.

if i can edit multiple songs info, why not edit multiple videos info?

It can't be that hard for them to do. seriously

  16. i'm having the same problem.
i'm wishing now i just got a nano instead.
itunes need to sort this out

  17. This program should help you batch-change all your "Movies" to the "Music Video" video kind at once.

  18. What i did was put my music videos as a TV Show with the title of the show as "Music Vidoes" (or whatever you prefer). This allows you to have the music videos in your library, but i agree that there should be a better way to do this.

Also, this will not put the music videos in the default "Music Videos" folder in a video iPod.

If this wasn't obvious to all of you, this still lets you view the music videos, just under the TV Shows menu.

  20. of course that is obvious but it is still not a final solution
what about the people who have tons and tons of tv shows and music videos
the music video should have its own section just as movies do
    simple as
what about everywhere outside the US who cant even buy movies on the itunes store yet but who can buy music videos
its not like it is a big request since apple had provided the section in previous versions of itunes

  21. Creating a Smart Playlist for Music Videos is the best temporary solution I've seen for this problem. I agree that Music Videos should definitely be a main media category with Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc. Why Apple would make a Music Video category on Video iPods and not on iTunes software is beyond me.

  22. This does suck ....but first things first, where do they go on itunes when you change them to music videos????? at least they are categorized on the ipod but come on? is there a way to add it to the "music video" playlist even after you change the video info.>?????

  23. i had the same crap happen, but i figured out because i didnt get my videos from itunes that they all go to my "Movies" section, you right click, go to "Get Info" and you can change things like the length of the song, add/subtrackt lyrics, +/- pictures, and change it to "Movies" "Music Videos" and "Tv Shows" but i dont have a "Music Video" thing so it goes to my music catagories
