iPhone 3G Setup and Ready

Picked up the iPhone 3G today. Setup was not too bad: I was able to provision the new phone via iTunes and immediately use a backup from my 2G iPhone to restore most my settings, files, apps, etc. Ran into a little trouble since the backup was from a later version of the OS (2.0.2) than the iPhone came with (likely 2.0.1, or maybe even 2.0).

Carey's phone was a bit easier to set up once I figured out that the iTunes error that kept getting thrown at me was due to the 12" PowerBook's lack of USB 2 ports ((Oddly, it worked once and even let me rename the iPhone to "Carey's iPhone" - but then it routinely failed to work after that.)). Lovely. I set her up with a MobileMe account since she still uses the 12" PowerBook as her primary computer, so synchronizing would be a pain otherwise. Anyway, after choosing to add the $20 plan (kudos to AT&T for recognizing the phone and not trying to juke me into the $35 get-up).

Now the hard part begins: training the wife on everything iPhone. 😀

  1. just got my iPhone on monday. (ordered it at the AT&T store on Wednesday, they shipped it 2 day FedEx on Thursday, and it arrived at the store on Monday)

took 10 minutes or so for the AT&T guy to get everything set up (new account, new phone #)

it came with 2.0.1, but I upgraded to 2.0.2 immediately.

no real problems, aside from the occasional application crash. the tilt sensor stopped working once, but a reboot fixed it.

I think you ordered the same day I did. My phone also arrived Monday (white 16GB), but I wasn't able to get into the store until today.
