Scrapbooking

Carey likes to say that our two hobbies mesh nicely together. I photograph, she scrapbooks. I kid her about the expense of scrapbooking, and how much time she spends doing it, but that's all I'm doing: kidding.

Truth is, she's done a wonderful job and has really developed a keen eye. Unlike many, her ideas change and each of her scrapbook pages look different from all those that have come before. I'd probably get stuck in a bit of a rut if I wasn't keenly aware of not trying to get stuck, but she doesn't seem to have that problem.

When I was younger, my dad took pictures and video of everything. Though I have a DV camera, it last saw action nearly two years ago. I like capturing the moments in my life in still frames. Pictures let your mind fill in the memories - while watching video, the events you remember never seem to quite live up to the memories of the events. The other advantage? With pictures, you can immediately skip to the time and event you wish to see, and you can linger as long as you'd like.

  1. Thank you, honey.

  2. You bring up an interesting point about scrap books vs. dvd's and videos... My wife and I don't do any of that but I do take a fair amount of photos. I'd like to turn them into something interesting and was wondering if you could post a few pics of pages of scrapbooks that Carey has done.

Maybe, but part of the appeal or design or whatever of scrapbook pages is that they're three dimensional. A picture of a scrapbook page would thus only relate a fraction of the "look and feel."
