Color SideKick?

Steven notes the release of the color Hiptop, errr, SideKick. If they have a data-only plan, and upgrades to the color version, you can bet your sweet ass I'll be switching as soon as I get back to Florida. I have my greyscale one with me out here, but I've turned it on once. After all, I have wireless in my housing for the weeks and I'm connected during the day, so I haven't needed it. I still have my original greyscale box, so there shouldn't be much of an issue…

  1. Is the sidekick pretty nice though? I've had my eye on one for a while, but I don't know how T-Mobile coverage is in my area. Also reading the forums over at http://www.hiptop.com is a downer... They have some pretty venemous hiptop haters over there.

  2. T-Mobile gives you 10 or 14 days to use the product. You can return it no questions asked (they may ask you why, but they won't deny you the option to return it). I did this before, but if you do that, check the coverage and return it, then you'd be okay.

  3. It's so funny to hear about the Sidekick so much. That company was founded by folks from a group of people I've known for years. They all left Apple in the mid 90s, started on online console game company (XBAND, acquired by Mplayer) then dispersed and continue to companies all throughout the valley -- WebTV, Danger, FullCircle/TalkBack (the thing Mozilla uses for crash logs), etc. I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting.

Eric of Eric's Solitare worked at XBAND too.

  4. Good news Erik, they have a data only plan for it. I'm not sure of the exact details yet. The brochures aren't out yet since they don't go on sale until Sunday. I think its $29.

  5. Am I the only person who doesn't understand the appeal of this device - why not use a symbian phone?

  6. I want, I want, I want!
