Cancer Sticks

Yesterday, while walking towards a mall entrance, a girl asked me if I had a lighter. I didn't, but if I had, I'd have walked over, opened the lighter for her, and lit her cancer stick cigarette. Had it been a guy, I might have tossed him my lighter and kept on moving. Both would be equally acceptable (in their situations). This is the difference between men and women. Well, one of a few million.

The girl made the comment that if she didn't get a cigarette soon "she would just die." I found this strange, given that she was talking about the lack of a cigarette. She was cute - an 8 at least - but the whole cigarette thing put her in the sub-6 range at best. Ick.

I really don't like smokers. I also, as a guy, like to toss things to people. 🙂

  1. I don't like them either. In a bar, I once took away a girl's cigarettes in order to avoid her blowing the dust into my face, which resulted in her biting into my hand to get them back...

  2. Smoking is a huge turn-off for me. I don't think I could ever date a smoker. The smell and everything about it bugs me.

Another smoking related pet peeve is homeless people asking for money while smoking. I hate to sound insensitive, but if you're really that desperate don't spend your money on cigarettes. If the choice is between food and shelter or smokes then you should be able to quit.

One day I feel like telling one of these smokers asking me for money how I feel, but I don't think I have the nerve to do so.

  3. For some reason, I find the image of a woman smoking to be rather sexy. But the smell, the voice, the coughing, the (I assume) taste, are all major turnoffs. So really... a girl smoking from a distance, or on TV is sexy... but when I have to confront the reality of it, I find my attraction turning to repulsion.

  4. Jeff,

They normally don't buy their cigarettes... most of them bum, just as they beg for money. At least that's the way it is around here....

  5. i loved the comments [posted as a former smoker]. i find it encouraging smokers should be treated with the contempt they deserve nevertheless they also need help
