QotD: Potty Trained

Question: At what age were you potty trained?

My Answer: I, like many boys, waited until I was nearly 3½ years old before I was potty trained. I remember once when my paternal grandparents were here, and I peed in the potty (from a step stool) and filled the whole bowl up with bubbles. I made my grandma come and look. I was so proud.

  1. I don't know how old I was, but my oldest was nearly 5 before she trained due to her developmental delays. My youngest was just past her 3rd birthday. What "they" say is true...each child will do it when he/she is ready and not a second before. Now that my kids are 9 and 7 respectively, it doesn't matter when they trained. For Emily who trained at 3, we knew she was ready, she just needed a motivator. For her, it was the fact that the camp she wanted to go to the following summer wouldn't take her unless she was trained. We told her that, she got right on program. It was December or so and every time she was successful she would announce, "I can go to summer camp tomorrow!"

  2. Can't say for sure when I finally decided diapers were enough but I know my 2 year old doesn't get it yet. She's 3 in October and no sign of her being done with diapers yet.

  3. I'm not usually one for prognostication, but I guess it will be a few years still, because Depends rule!
