Dropbox

A long time ago I found Dropbox intriguing. Then I didn't think about it again.

Until I read Michael "Rands" Lopp's post on it, after which I signed up immediately.

I've already found two good uses for it:

  1. I've put my Scorecard data files on it so that I can have up-to-date files on both computers. Previously I had them stored on my iDisk.
  2. I created a folder for a project I'm working on with Josh (yeah) so that we could share documents that way rather than emailing them back and forth.

Only one question remains: why the frick couldn't the iDisk work like Dropbox?

Update: Good point by Michael Tsai regarding Dropbox's limitations.

  1. I'd try putting my Cyndicate data files. Do you see a possible problem with that? I'm currently syncing them with a server using rsync but it's a bit tedious.

My Cyndicate database is over 175 MB, so if you check for or delete posts in Cyndicate frequently, the only problem I foresee is that you might be uploading a lot of data far too frequently.

If that's not a concern, go ahead - I don't imagine you'd have a problem. Be aware that the Cyndicate database is actually a bundle containing both posts and ratings data files.

  3. I actually just installed this last night - finding it pretty excellent. Saw the write-up by Rands afterwards, but that just reaffirmed my feeling that I want to continue using this.

Thanks for the article regarding resource forks - had no idea this was an issue.
