Disney Vacation Day 0: Clearwater, FL

Does Georgia have a factory that produces orange traffic barrels? I ask because Carey, Jill (Carey's mom), and I all swear we saw more traffic barrels in Georgia while stuck in traffic at 1am than we've ever seen anywhere else. We may have seen a million of them - they were spaced every 5-10 feet instead of the more normal 50-100 feet. Is the governor's brother the CEO of a barrel-making company or something?

Anyway, after arriving at 7am, and sleeping for all of 2½ hours, Carey and I went off to take the Touareg in for the service I mentioned in the previous post. Given our interest in the CR-V While there, we checked out the Honda dealership next door. A few thoughts on the models we checked out:

CR-V: Eh, not blown away. One question: why the heck doesn't Honda have a hybrid CR-V? They have them in the smaller models and the larger models, but neither the Element nor the CR-V have hybrid models.

Element: My thoughts are the same as they were in 2003, but it's Carey's choice, so what I think doesn't matter a whole lot here. The only thing she didn't like was that the rear door can't be opened independently of the front door, but that's not likely to be much of an issue. In many ways, the Element is a semi-successor to the Aztek (which she and I both love). Not too expensive either.

Civic Hybrid: If I had a vote, I might put it on the Civic Hybrid. Surprisingly inexpensive and 40/45 MPG are big wins. Hondas are supposed to be pretty reliable. Carey will check out the safety and reliability ratings, but she says she might consider it. She's just a bit spoiled at "riding high" the past few years in SUV-ish cars, and doesn't know if she'd adapt well to a true sedan again.

After the (non-successful) car servicing, we met back up with everyone, ate at Boston Market, and did a little shopping. Then we headed to Clearwater Beach, where we splashed in the waves, walked one of the long piers, observed some performers, and bought some shell necklaces. I'd had one (from Hawaii) a long time ago that broke in 2005 or so, and I've never been able to find a good one here in Erie. So Carey bought me one, and I bought her one, and now I have something to remember this trip by. I feel a bit cooler with the shell necklace on, even if you can't see it most of the time - don't ask me why.

We visited relatives for Cake and, mercifully, I went to bed at about 10:15pm. Have to be up at 4:30, after all. 🙂
