QotD: Uninvent

Question: If you could uninvent one thing so that it would no longer exist, what would you choose?
My Answer: Religion. I'm fairly certain that people would find something else over which to fight, but I know I'd be interested in seeing the result. Religion has caused or at least complicated nearly every war I can name. Would we also lose hope with religion? I doubt it. I think the "good" would continue to exist. This poses another question entirely: has religion been a net positive or negative? I don't know that I'm qualified to answer that.

i think it would be interesting to see, not what people would fight over instead of religion, but what would happen in general without it existing. i mean if religion was never around, alot of people wouldn't be known and most countries wouldn't exist as we know them.

I think religion can be a net good for people who take it seriously and understand the contradictions. While an atheist myself, I've found that it's possible to get along with people who are quite religious, and even have a rational discussion about it. Of course, I've experienced a lot more of the opposite, but for those who can approach it realistically, it does seem to provide a very compelling reason to do good and be compassionate.

Yeah, I'm with uninventing the Dixie Chicks as well. Thought I might choose Barney or the Spice Girls instead. 🙂
Or Pee Wee. Oh, so many choices when you enter pop culture.
