QotD: Radio

Question: How often do you listen to the radio? What do you listen to?
My Answer: Never. Nothing. Easy.
I used to listen to the radio all the time. I used to record stuff I was too cheap (hey, I was seven) to buy. I used to listen to Pittsburgh Pirate broadcasts on 1330 all the time. The evenings I spent on the front porch for 3 hours listening to the Bucs are some of my fondest.
Of course, that was all before radio began to suck. And I don't think I'm just being an old fogey when I say that, either. I think radio these days sucks. Doesn't ClearChannel or someone own about 99.4% of all radio stations out there? Ugh. I listen to more Internet Radio than I do regular radio, and I don't listen to much Internet Radio at all.

I listen to the radio only twice a day-- going to work and coming home from work. It's an hour's drive, so I get to listen for a bit. However, I have to agree that for the most part, radio sucks ass.
In the mornings headed for work I listen to only the King of All Media, Howard Stern. On the way home I listen to sports/talk so I can get listen what my Marlins/Dolphins, and other teams, are up to.

I usually listen to ESPNRadio at work if I am the only person there. If someone else is there, I just let my iTunes run. I figure they want to hear music over Tony Kornheiser and Dan Patrick.

I used to listen to radio a lot, but I've nearly dropped it entirely. I think this is due to
1. It seems like there's been a change in music industry culture from, say, 10 years ago. More celebrity, less song.
2. The programming isn't worth sitting through the ads anymore. I'm cutting down on my advertising and commercial news news (is there a difference? 🙂 intake in all media. I feel much more relaxed.
3. Over-the top DJs
4. Stations overplaying material to the point that I don't like good songs anymore.
I have a lot of CDs and MP3s. I'll get new music through friends or the iTunes store and that's about it.
