Battery Leakage

Today I sat in a Target parking lot for about half an hour while my free Roadside Assistance sent a tow truck. You see, my battery leaked, and caused a short or two, and so my car didn't start. Ho hum.

The tow truck driver, upon getting into his cab for the dealer, immediately launched into a tirade about how his job sucked. 15-hour days, six-day weeks. Bad pay. Something like that. He says this to the guy whose car he's towing, and honestly, I really didn't care. What kind of a position was I to sympathize? My day had just been hampered. Not ruined, but dinged up just a bit.

Anyway, four hours later, I was back at home. New, non-leaking battery in place (and an oil change to boot). We'll see how it lasts. Florida heat is deadly on batteries.

  1. Once while being towed the driver sat there telling me the opposite. His job wasn't good, but it was good enough to buy a 3,200 sq. ft. home for him and this three kids. Days he works he can't see them, but he was about to buy the company so that would be the end of that.

And here I thought it sucked more to be the guy with a car that wasn't moving and probably wouldn't for days. Woo. 😉

  2. I had something similar a few years ago. I took my car in to get the battery replaced. This was a small shop, not a chain, so I was allowed to stand in the garage area while the work was done. I listened as the mechanic railed against "damn engineers" who insisted on using batteries with front-mounted battery posts instead of top-mounted posts, all in the name of "safety."

I decided not to tell the fellow that I was heading back to engineering school at the end of the summer. 😉
