QotD: Band
Posted February 12th, 2004 @ 11:19pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Question: If you could only listen to one band, group, or singer for the rest of your life, who would you choose?
My Answer: R.E.M. With the variety of their 20-year career and the intelligence of the lyrics, I'd never get tired of their vast collection of music.

Oasis definitely. 10 years and I haven't tired of them yet.

You have to go with Zeppelin. No question.

The Pixies.

a second vote for the pixies. moreso if you expand it to all the 4AD bands.
REM post IRS had a much lower hit rate. IRS would be a nice 2nd or 3rd runner-up to 4AD.

C'mon, "hits" are merely a measure of a society's idiocy. 🙂 R.E.M. was told "you can't make a radio hit" so they wrote "Shiny Happy People," which succeeded as a radio hit while completely mocking the same people who liked it. "Stand" is similar as well.

Tough call. I'm torn between John Williams and Pink Floyd. Williams would probably win out just because he has a much larger body of work. Besides, life without strings would be a barren cold existence hardly worth living.

i didn't mean "hit rate" as in "hits".. or at least not in the top 40/radio play/clearchannel-approved way.
life's rich pageant would definitely be one of my desert island five.
"stand" and "shiny happy people" may have been mocking.. but they're still annoying. "the one i love" or the cure's "let's go to bed" are much better examples.

I'm with Gregory: Tom Waits. No question at all.
