QotD: Judgmental
Posted February 15th, 2004 @ 12:27pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Question: Are you judgmental?
My Answer: Nah. I know what I would do, I know what I'm comfortable with, but I don't force or impose my values on others. You wanna be gay? Go ahead. Wanna smoke? Go ahead. If you're blowing smoke on me or trying to hump me, then that offends me and I'll speak up, but that's not being judgmental. There's a difference, too, between having and sharing opinions and being judgmental.

I think you've done this one before.
My Answer: If forcing your opinions on others is the definition of judgmental then I would say that I am rarely judgmental.
On the other hand... I looked this up and found that judgmental means that one is inclined to make judgments, especially moral or ethical ones. This led me to look up judgment.
1. The act or process of judging; the formation of an opinion after consideration or deliberation.
2.
a. The mental ability to perceive and distinguish relationships; discernment: Fatigue may affect a pilot's judgment of distances.
b. The capacity to form an opinion by distinguishing and evaluating: His judgment of fine music is impeccable.
c. The capacity to assess situations or circumstances and draw sound conclusions; good sense: She showed good judgment in saving her money. See Synonyms at reason.
3. An opinion or estimate formed after consideration or deliberation, especially a formal or authoritative decision.
4. Law.
a. A determination of a court of law; a judicial decision.
b. A court act creating or affirming an obligation, such as a debt.
c. A writ in witness of such an act.
5. An assertion of something believed.
6. A misfortune believed to be sent by God as punishment for sin.
Now I think that I am judgmental! I make discernments and formulate opinion all the time. I just keep it all to myself until prompted, because that is what is enouraged socially.

Yeah, but I had a different answer back then. One not so serious.
