QotD: Snow
Posted March 22nd, 2004 @ 08:56pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Question: I wanna know… have you ever seeeeen the snow?
My Answer: Apologies to Creedence Clearwater Revival. I grew up in it, yes. I walked to school through it. I'm surprised, however, by the number of people who haven't, so sound out if you've never seen snow.

First time I saw snow was about 3 years ago in Kansas City, MO. Not my cup of tea, rather be in the tropic. I would like if winter was shorter 😛 (currently I live in VA)

I grew up in NYC, so we always looked forward to snow days when the schools were closed. I also spent a year in Wyoming and saw more snow than I ever want to see in my life.
I just love telling people up north that I went to the beach in the middle of January 🙂

I live in Florida, grew up in Miami so I never really saw snow fall until February 2002 in Washington, DC. You know that big blizzard that shut down the airports? Yeah, that one. I absolutely loved it! Of course, it helps that I rented a Jeep Liberty 4x4 to get around town. 🙂

Snow rocks! Well, when it isn't the end of March at least. Stupid WV weather.

I grew up in southern California. Saw real snow all the time, but only from a distance. It's that stuff which makes the tops of the mountains white sometimes. 🙂
I think I was about ten when my parents realized that they'd never actually gotten around to taking me to see the snow, so we drove up to the mountains so I could throw a few snowballs. (It was a week old and rather dirty and icy, but you take what you can get when it never gets below 40 degrees Farenheight at night at home.) 🙂
The first time I saw snow actually come out of the sky was several years later, in Carson City or Virginia City, NV. I don't think the second time was until last November in Chicago. I've seen snow (the noun) plenty of times, including in July (Cedar Breaks National Monument, in Utah. At around 10,800 feet above sea level) but I think I've only actually seen it snow (the verb) those two times.

I've still never seen snow. I am 22-years-old too! I go up north plenty, I've traveled to eight different nations, but I always miss snow. I don't really know what I am missing so I don't mind anymore, but I sure hated it when I was a kid.
I have seen it from an airplane in the west and on Mount Kilimanjaro, but those don't really count now do they?

I've always been a fan of winter (and the consequent snow). But I guess growing up in northern alberta does that to someone. Must be the eight months of it we get...

Last time I saw snow was...uhm... about a week ago, here in Vienna/Austria, lying all over the streets. I really hate winter, it's f***ing cold here.

Snow? What do you think I am?! Puerto Rican?

It actually snowed today here in southeastern Norway 🙂
Snow is nice as long as it doesn't stay too long, really.

I was born and raised in Chicago and have been living in Boston for the past 7 years, so yeah, I've seen snow both on the ground and in the sky. Speaking of snow, this past weekend, I got my drysuit certifaction(this means I went SCUBA diving) while there was snow on the ground.

I have a love/hate relationship with snow. I was born in Iowa and raised in South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, so you'd better believe I've seen snow. More than seen it, I've basically lived in it, build little forts out of it, eaten it, thrown it, shoveled it, caught it on my tongue, and written my name in it when there was no bathroom around.
Sometimes snow totally sucks because it can make driving so dangerous, and it can make it hard to do certain things you want to do, but at other times (like snow days, when school is cancelled) it is a true blessing from God.
I live in California now, so I kinda miss it, and I'm kinda glad it's gone. I need to make up my freakin' mind. 😀
