Opening Day a National Holiday?

These people wish it to be so.
We the undersigned believe there should be a national holiday called Opening Day to take place the first Monday of April, coinciding with the start of the baseball season.
We believe that this is the type of issue you would embrace as being of benefit to all U.S. citizens. There’s something for everyone in an Opening Day holiday. Working people will support it because they will have a paid day off and a three-day weekend. Unions will support it because those who work it will get overtime pay. Businesses, particularly travel, hospitality and retail, will support it because the three-day weekend will generate additional revenues. Families will support it because with time off from work and the kids home from school, it will give them more time to spend together.
The stretch from Presidents Day to Memorial Day is the longest period during the year without a holiday. An early-April holiday would be in the middle of that stretch.
Opening Day of course is at its heart a celebration of baseball, the American Pastime, but more so, it’s a celebration of the beginning of spring, a time of renewal, a concept at the heart of your presidency. It is in fact a celebration of life itself.
I signed up, even though I work for myself. Can't hurt.

That's the best idea I've seen in years. Which reminds me, I need to buy some opening day tickets for the Marlins. Or the Nationals? Or the Orioles? Hmm- I guess I've have to wait considering I don't know where I'll be living by the time Opening Day rolls around...

I think it makes perfect sense, it feels like the holiday my own calendar was missing.
