QotD: Needles and Flu Shots
Posted November 11th, 2005 @ 03:04pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Question: Are you afraid of needles? Do you get a flu shot every year?
My Answer: No, and no. But I just got one today. Carey made me. 🙂

I don't think I am afraid of them, but I do find them to be unpleasant, I don't like watching needles go into flesh, and I dread having them enter me.
I have never received a flu shot.

I don't think those that are reluctant to get flu shots are scared of needles as much as they are scared of getting the flu. Which is sort of how the vaccine works, hopefully, giving you a mild flu to build up antbodies. Yap all you want about the virus being dead, denatured beyond reproduction, whatever, the shots can still make one feel sick, and it isn't psychosomatic. And it could temporarily lower your resistance to strains it has no ability to build up against.

Bud, as a medicinal chemist(ry major), I know what a vaccine is. I think most people do, too, and every doctor I've been to tells their patients as well just in case.
My arm was mildly sore around the area of my shot. That was it. Vaccines are a result of good science.
