Steve Irwin’s Kids

So Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, has died of a stingray tine to the heart. So be it - live by the sword, die by the sword they say. His wife, I heard, hadn't yet heard the news because she was backpacking somewhere remote.

I didn't have a problem when Steve Irwin took his newborn kid into the crocodile pit back in 2004. He's Steve Irwin, after all, and he knew what he was doing. I do have a weird problem with parents that are so quick to disregard the well-being of their kids by continuing to put themselves in so much danger, not to mention leaving them alone (or in the care of others) for long periods of time, as they both must be doing right now.

If you want to be doing all of those things - backpacking and swimming with sharks and all sorts of dangerous things - why have kids to begin with? Your work calls for you to abandon them for long periods of time and it's dangerous. Steve Irwin's death doesn't affect only Steve and his wife - people who chose to be who they were - but their kids, too, who didn't have any choice in the matter at all.

My wishes go out to Mrs. Irwin… but mostly to the two Irwin children left behind yet again by their parents.

  1. Actually, his wife has been informed.

  2. I think he was shooting for a show with his daugther, Bindi.

  3. Those are both side issues. He and his wife continued to do dangerous things despite having kids that depend on the well-being of their parents. That's the somewhat irresponsible part.

Bindi was not with him, nor was she with her mother. The kids were - presumably - at home.

  4. So I guess all soldiers, firefighters, policemen, reporters in conflict zones, etc. should quit their jobs when they have kids? Is it irresponsible of them to continue to put themselves in danger?

There's many things people do as a profession or otherwise in which they are away from their kids for a long period of time. Should all these people not have kids under your code of resposnibility?

  5. A nation will surely mourn, along with a family. Perhaps he should have stayed at home with the family - but this is not the time to slate a man (or any other) for following his passion.

  6. Jeff, how many times do we find two parents who are firefighters, policemen, or reporters in conflict zones? I can't even think of one "reporter in conflict zones" husband/wife team.

Furthermore, I think that comparing being a soldier to doing nature shows trivializes what being a soldier is all about.

Irwin had made his money, lived a good life, and decided with his wife to have kids. It's called "settling down" for a reason. If someone's passion is partying hard and getting plastered every weekend, that ain't so good for the kids either.

I simply think he owed it to his kids to step back from the dangerous stuff a bit - at least one of them did.

I don't truly ask anyone to live under my code of responsibility, and I respect that other people have their own, but that doesn't mean I can't express mine from time to time. Situations like this make me think about my own. It's through thinking that we come to truly discover where our own morality and sense of responsibility lie. If this post made you think about your own sense(s), then it's been good.

  7. I believe the mother and kids were all together on vacation in Tasmania. They showed the three of them boarding a plane after they heard the news to head back to Queensland. Steve actually has said he travels with them wherever he went.

Here's a quote from Steve: "So we spend a lot of time in planes, 'cause I like to take my family wherever I go in the world."

  9. actually. the kids were on a walking tour of tasmania with Terri.

  10. i was really shocked when i heard about steve if it had gone anywere else apart from his heart he would still be with us, and he was such a great man and loved his wife and kids and also was great he died what he liked doing best. x

  11. The untimely passing of Steve Irwin is a great tragedy. This has effected my family more than I could have imagined; he has been a great influence on myself and my two boys. The world will never be the same. In the past, I have dealt with this type of emotional pain through music. Being a song writer and composer, I have written musical compositions and songs to honour friends, family, and fallen heroes to ease the pain and commemorate the contributions they've made in life. Steve falls under the obvious catagory of "HERO." Please accept and share with the world this musical tribute in honour of the great "CROCODILE HUNTER" Steve Irwin.. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!

    Sincerely:
    David James

  12. I've just listened to David James' song "The Mighty Steve" and it says everything that Steve stood for.He loved his family AND his animals so people shouldn't knock him or Terri for doing their best to cope with hard jobs and family life. After all those 2 children had the best upbringing in the world, how many of you lot had the world as your playground and learnt new things every day about our world and it's animals.
LEAVE STEVE AND HIS FAMILY ALONE.

  13. I really loved steve. I think just like others fireman, cops, and others risk there lives. But I would not go as far to say they shouldnt have kids. You could be a roofer, carpenter anything and risk it.Should people who work at McDonalds quit. They take the risk of slipping an hitting there head.It wouldnt have mattered if he would'nt have mattered where he was it was his time.LOTS OF LOVE TO TERRI,KIDS,AND FAMILY NO MATTER WHAT NO ONE THINKS!

  14. steve was the best

  15. honestly nobody is perfect and yet no one has the right to fingerpoint other people's mistakes and if you're perfect let me know who you are cause I would like to be mistake-free like you. My condolences go out for TERRI, CHILDREN AND STEVE'S PARENTS may GOD fill you up with the comfort and strenght that you all need. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!!

  16. i just want to say what children knew about wildlife and croc's before steve taught them. steve is an amazing man and is 1 in a million he will all ways be remebered and why do u have to stop what you love doing when you have kids. my thoughts go out to steve's family R.I.P steve

  17. Further to the comments about leaving children, and how often are both parents in the Military etc?

Just FYI there are many many families who have 2 parents serving in conflict zones presently, which means children are left at home with friends, nannies, relatives etc whilst mom and dad are away for upto 9 months, doing dangerous jobs whilst carrying guns!!

I guess we all do the best with the situations we are faced with.

If we say that people should alter their situations when they "settle down"; should Doctor's no longer do night shift so they are home more with their children, or should truck drivers no longer drive trucks as it can be dangerous and takes them away from their families?

    hmmm just a thought...

  18. The Irwin children, Bindi and Baby Bob, are amongst the most well adjusted children I have ever seen or heard of. Their parents are obviously doing something very RIGHT by them. There are all too many parents who spend much time with their children but abuse and/or ignore them. I'm certain That is something neither Bindi nor Baby Bob ever experienced from their parents. You need to rethink your harsh judgement of them.

  19. I find it funny that you say they are always leaving their kids behind and cared for by other people. Where do you get your information? It is common knowledge that the Irwin's worked, travelled and played as a family...they were always together.

  20. 😆 😛 I think that The Irwins are the best parents ever If They were my parents I would love it because they are learning alot of things about animals I think Bindi is going to be just like her dad

  21. I think you should rethink your life and i think that you are stuck up and ruthless. He did what he loved and he died doing what he loved and thats all we can ask for and you are rude and should take this page off the enternet because your giving people the wrong idea like he died on purpose you are an insolt to his family.

My wife used to ride snowmobiles for fun and enjoyment. Then she had a kid, and her priorities changed. If she dies, our kid will no longer have a mother. The risk (death) was acceptable to her before, but now (death + leaving her child motherless) isn't.

That's my opinion, and it has nothing to do with being "stuck up" nor "ruthless." I applaud him for doing what he loved - but Steve Irwin took a risk and his kids are paying for it.

  23. I FEEL WHAT STEVE IRWIN HAS DONE FOR HIS CHILDREN IS AMAZING HE HAS TRAINED THEM FOR THE FUTURE AS HE WANTS HIS CHILDREN TO FOLLOW THE SAME CAREER AS HIM.

STEVE IRWIN WAS AN AMAZING GUY AND DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE SUCH AN HORRIBLE DEATH.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU STEVE

  24. 😀 😉 😆 FOR ME STEVE IRWIN WAS A PERSON WHO LOVED ANIMALS SPECIALLY CROCS AND I LOVE THE WAY HE TOOK HIS CHILDREN AND WIFE INTO HIS ADVENTURES NOW BINDI´S PROGRAM IS VERY SPECIAL AND SHE IS A VERY CUTE GIRL WE LOVE THEM I AM FROM GUATEMALA CENTRAL AMERICA
    BYE

  25. 😳 I JUST HAVE 2 SAY I AGREE ITS GREAT HE IS TAKEIN HIS KIDS WITH HIM BUT NOT IF IT IS TO SEE CROCODILES 😐 😕 🙂 😀 😎

  26. FOR ME IT WAS GREAT FOR ME THE IDEA TO TEACH THEIR KIDS TO LOVE ANIMALS AND THEIR HABITATS BECAUSE MOST OF THE PEOPLE DOESN´T CARE ABOUT THEM AT ALL. THEY EVEN THINK THAT ANIMALS CAN´T EVEN THINK. THEY´RE KIND OF STUPID. RIGHT? I HATE THOSE PEOPLE AND I LOVE BINDI´S SHOW AND SEE HOW THIS FAMILY CONTINUES CARING ABOUT ANIMALS AS WHEN STEVE WAS ALIVE TWO THUMBS UP FOR THEM I LOVE THEM  😛 😆
