Laryngitis Update

The prednisone seems to have done the trick. I'm coughing less too, so perhaps I've had a month-long case of laryngitis that only recently fully manifested itself or the coughing just seems to have gone away. I cough a lot more when I talk, less when I'm just sitting here.

Carey's been dealing with adult onset allergies, she believes. Her throat and eyes haven't felt great for about a month. What recommendations does anyone have for OTC allergy medication? The usual "non-drowsy" yada yada stuff?

  1. I've become a big fan of Claritan - my wife and I have the opportunity to stay from time to time in a new cabin that's in the family - and the pine boards in the cabin wreak havoc on my allergies for some reason. The Claritan works wonders - or seems to.

  2. I second Claritin-- my wife takes Claritin D 12 hour (one per day, since she only has allergies during the day), I have great sucess with Claritin 24 hour (non-D, as sudafed makes me dopey).

The big thing with Claritin is that it is most effective when taken over a long period of time-- it works when there's a steady level of it in your bloodstream.

  3. I tried Allegra 180 for awhile and I haven't used it in a couple of years. Honestly just reducing the allergens when we moved into a new house with mostly wood floors seems to have done the trick. I didn't find out I had allergies until a couple of years ago. I'm baffled by this adult onset thing. I swear it seems that our bodies aren't "made" the same way our parents' bodies were but maybe I'm just nuts.
