Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM is Coming

Later this week I expect a Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens to arrive at my house. It should come with a 1.4x teleconverter and a drop-in circular polarizing filter ((Canon makes the only one?)).
The 300/2.8 is perhaps one of the finest lenses Canon makes. Its average overall rating is a perfect 10 at FredMiranda, and many say the lens suffers almost no image quality degradation with the teleconverter.
I'm going to be trying the lens out for a few months before deciding whether I'll want to add it to my personal inventory, and I'm sure I'll post my thoughts here after I get it. At this point, though, Thursday or Friday can't arrive quickly enough.

You can actually get a stock Canon drop-in converted to a Singh-Ray:

I am a fan of their LB Warming polarizer, it's a lot brighter than my Heliopan.

Thanks. I may have to try that… after I decide whether to keep the lens or not. Though I must add I'm not a fan of warming filters. I prefer to warm in post-processing if necessary or, more often, to just get the white balance correct.

How are you able to try this lens out for a few months and then return it if you don't want to keep it? I'd love to do this too. Though I don't know that I could part with it after I'd had it in my hands.

A friend of mine at Canon is sending it to me. He used to be a friend from Apple, and I know lots of much better photographers than me that can't even get a reduced price from Canon, so I'm feeling quite fortunate today.

Well, Erik... not that I think you will be able to part with the lens either; however, in that unlikely event, let me know and I'll be glad to take it off your hands! 🙂
