Latest pet peeve: websites that lack a "notify me of follow-up comments" functionality.
I have one installed here and at The Sand Trap and virtually every other site I manage.
If you're using WordPress, I recommend Subscribe to Comments.
This blog contains posts, all written by me, and comments, only some of which were written by me.

If you're fine with outsourcing your comments section, Disqus offers this option and quite a few more.
In its favor, Disqus supports OpenID, while WordPress core does not (but really should).

I agree with Mike Disquis is better than wordpress on this function
