Reply-To Lies

Let me just say - I hate hate hate when the "From" name does not match the "reply-to" address in an email.

For example, a friend of mine named "Bob" posts to a blog to which I've subscribed to the comments, or a forum.

I get an email that says "from: Bob" and I reply with an inside joke that Bob and I will find funny and nobody else will understand.

The message is addressed to "to: Bob" but with an actual email address that auto-posts my comment to the blog or forum.

Boooo.

  1. Yeah, that's incredibly annoying. I sent a mail from Mail.app on my iPhone today -- I use Gmail, and when I post straight from Gmail it posts properly with both From and Reply-to as my email address from my own domain.

But when I post from Mail.app (via Gmail as SMTP server) it gets sent from the Gmail address instead. I've looked through all settings I could find both in Gmail and on the iPhone, and I think it's related to the username in the Mail.app settings being the Gmail address - and I can't exactly change that.

    1. Huh, didn't notice that this was an older blog post - it just popped up as unread for me. Oh well.

I'm behind. It's the newest (complete) one I've got.
