Honda CR-V vs. Kia Sorento
Posted December 18th, 2010 @ 08:37pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Top models - leather, navigation, Bluetooth, etc. for both - is what it's come down to for Carey.
Sorento Plusses
---------------
- keyless entry/ignition
- V6 engine
- third row of seats
- included roof rack
- Sportmatic shifting
- panoramic sunroof
- longer warranty
CR-V Plusses
------------
- less expensive (~$1600)
- voice-activated commands for more than nav
- Honda reliability/resale
Decision mostly made. Still a small possibility it could change, though. Both local, which is a first for us.

In earlier posts it sounded like the honda was out. Curious as to why that changed?

She'd ruled it out last August, if that's when you're talking about, but this time around it's always been a top contender.

So what did she end up picking? I went with a2011 crv only because i didnt want to be a guinnea pig for a korean car. So far im enjoying it.

Adam - That's what I'm thinking, too! I'm not a gambler. You were considering the same two cars?

Just looking at the two lists in this post, it seems as though you've already made your decision. You list many more pluses for the Kia. It should also be noted that Kia's are made by Hyundai, who is getting a great reputation for quality in recent years.
I should also point out that I'd choose neither, but that doesn't mean that you've made wrong decisions here. Both will probably end up being great cars for you!

Kia and Hyundai formed a sort of partnership or something, yes, but you're wrong in assuming that "more plusses" means she's opting for the Kia.
She's taking the Honda CR-V, largely because the last plus I listed in the Honda category carries a lot of weight. Particularly when we'd like our kiddo, who's now eight, to be able to drive this car when she turns 16.

Why not another Forrester?

Answered that in the comments here. Basically, for the same amount of money, the Forester is even less well equipped and seems to be a bit cursed. For about the same amount of money she feels she's getting a better car.
Last year we ruled out the CR-V very quickly, but they also showed us some entry-level one with cloth and no accessories, and it felt cheap, overpriced, and ugly.

My mom bought a CR-V last year and loves it.

My friend own a Sorento and it seems to be pretty realible, but the Honda CR-V plusses convinced me, so if I would have to choose only between these two it would be the Honda.
