Golf Lesson #3

At about 12:30 one night I realized that, in focusing on my takeaway, I was forgetting to turn my shoulders much at all and that my takeaway had become more of an arms-only move. Stupid. One-piece? More like two. And a half. The instructor confirms this, and we move on to the next task: the […]

Little Golfer Does Well

4 (hit the par putt too hard) on the 11th from about 60 yards. 7-iron right onto the green. 9 on the 17th from the red tees.

PGA Free Lesson Month

If you're a golfer, you're entitled to a free 10-minute lesson from participating PGA instructors. Just visit this page and look for an instructor in your area. If you think you can't do much in ten minutes, well, you're wrong. One guy I know went from barely breaking 100 to shooting the easiest 84 he'd […]

Wii Punch Out, Anyone?

Anyone else getting it? Looks good, but the review at IGN makes it sound like a remake - even telling you to ignore using the motion control stuff and just to use the Wiimote as a two-button controller like the original NES. $55 or so for a remake? I don't know… and I was really […]

After an entire series of close games, half of which went beyond 60 minutes, it was nice to finally have a breather. Now the Pens await the winner of the Bruins-Canes seventh game. Two ECF in two years is pretty good, but the Pens aren't satisfied by that. They're only halfway to their ultimate goal.

I saw a study today on some news show that said that because kids are home during the summer, the average amount of television viewed per household increases nearly 40% during the summer. Mine drops nearly 100% - I barely watch TV (except golf, basically) during the summer. There's nothing on because it's nice outside […]

Golf Lesson #2

I was about 40% improved (he said 60%) on the takeaway, though he'd like my hands a bit more inside. Right hand grip was adjusted slightly to be a bit stronger, and we're just going to keep focusing on the same things. Only new thing was something I decided to put off: left hand "chop" […]

1000 Balls

I've now hit roughly 1000 golf balls anywhere from 70 to 100 yards with a 7-iron, all in an attempt to groove a better takeaway. It's incredibly annoying how important the first few inches your hands move can have such disastrous results on the rest of your golf swing. 🙂 But on the bright side, […]

Golf Lesson 1 of 9

Earlier today I took the first golf lesson of my life. We worked on two things: Takeaway Hands inside, clubhead out, without fanning open the clubface. I have to feel as though I'm turning the clubface down or that the right hand really stays on top. The "feel thought" that seems to work best for […]

Hiring an Outside Consultant

I'm hiring an outside consultant tomorrow. I've spent years honing my practices and abilities, but it's time to seek outside assistance from a trained professional. Everything I know about what I do is self-taught, and if someone can provide a fresh perspective I should immediately see a higher ROI and better results across the board. […]

Mad Men, Season 1

I've finished watching Mad Men, Season 1 (Netflixed it). I seem to be missing something. It's a good show, but I don't think I'd call it great. Does it pick up in season two and three at all? Do you have to be older than 31 to really get it? The stereotyping is pretty heavy […]

Back from Disney World

If you've been wondering where I've been for the past week, the answer is spelled M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Yeah, we took a one-week family vacation to Disney World. I didn't pre-announce it here on my blog for obvious reasons, and I didn't post "I'm in Disney World" for the same reasons, but I did write a […]

Today we were let into Epcot an hour early so that we could make our way back to "Norway," where that morning's breakfast with the princesses would take place. The princesses came around rather quickly, so we finished up and walked leisurely to Test Track. Carey obtained some fast passes (for 9:30) and we were […]

My feet and legs have stopped complaining. Though I was never in even a moderate amount of pain, I did notice mild discomfort from all the walking we were doing. They've given up complaining even a little at this point. I will use this otherwise waste-of-a-post to point out that Carey did a great thing […]
