NeXT Hardware
Posted July 16th, 2003 @ 08:03am by Erik J. Barzeski
I'm looking to buy a NeXT Cube or Slab. I'd like it to run OpenStep 4.2 and be in good (working) condition. I'll pay for it, obviously, and I'm putting a note here on my blog because searches on eBay for "next slab" really don't turn up very many appropriate results! 🙂 Plus, I know at least a few people out there who should have some… anyone willing to help a nostalgic geek out?

This place has the best deals I've seen: http://www.blackholeinc.com/specials/blackhardware.shtml

And one of the ugliest sites in existence, to boot! 🙂

No doubt. But hey, they sell hardware from the nineties, probably about the same time the site was designed/created. 🙂

I have a NeXT Cube..that I bought way back in 1990. It was running NeXT Step 3. something, when I took it apart. I was trying to fit my g3 into there. Unfortunately, the G3 motherboard is like 2 cm too big. But..yeah. I guess I'm not willing to cell the machine though. I like it too much 🙂

Hmm...interesting site! And they're located right in my neck of the woods (Denver)! I might have to go on a field trip to meet these people :-)!

Jonas, there's a good Finder's Fee in there for you if they're moderately priced (and they work)!

I'm pretty sure I've bought NeXT hardware from Black Hole Inc before (several years ago), and they were good. I'm trying to remember the name of the other place I used to buy NeXT stuff from. I'll post again if I remember it.
(And no, I'm not looking to sell any of my NeXTs!)

Thanks to the memory of a friend, deepspacetech.com was the other one I was thinking of. They seem to not be around anymore. This page has a few more sources listed on it:

I might be able to hook you up with a NeXT cube and/or pizza box, provided that the company I work for would be willing to part with them (at no personal financial gain, mind you). No guarantee that they'll run 4.2, but external hard drives and extra SCSI cables might be thrown in for fun. Surely won't be free, but I'll check tomorrow.

I almost bought a color turbo pizza box a while back ... I do have a still-shrinkwrapped copy of NeXTSTEP 3.3 for NeXT hardware if you want it.
