QotD: Movie Lines

Question: Do you quote movie lines often? What's your favorite?

My Answer: Can't say I have a favorite, but as a guy, I do my part to repeat as many movie lines as possible, at every opportunity. Very few women seem to be "into" this sort of thing, so I've learned it's best not to repeat movie lines to them as much as the humor is most often entirely lost.

  1. My favorite (movie lines) of them all is...."Talk to the hand!". But I guess no one says it better than the Terminator.

  2. "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves." -- Wm. Shakespeare, Julius Ceasar

Granted, it's not a movie, but it's the line I find myself quoting the most as I blog around aimlessly searching for meaning.

  3. I'll often be found making a variation on the Pulp Fiction "It's 7:22 in the A.M." quote, and when working on mathematics, I'll say "Something's going on. It has to do with that number. There's an answer in that number," from Pi.

My favorite, though, is from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: "There is nothing more irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we would be getting into that rotten stuff sooner or later."

  4. "English Motherf*cker. Do you speak it?" or any other variation of that. 😀

  5. "I just met a wonderful new man. He's fictional, but you can't have everything."

Cecilia, from The Purple Rose of Cairo

"We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered."

Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

  6. From 'Apollo 13': "I'm hungry enough to eat the ass out of a dead rhinoceros."

It's nasty, funny, and lets people know that you are, indeed, very hungry.

  7. "Your reputation far excedes your skills."
