Doogie was early 90s. 🙂
Posted 07 Dec 2003 at 11:13pm #
...and thanks to 10-10-220, Alf is back. However, if you know Alf is from Melmac, then you are old-school. 🙂

Slap bracelets! Yes!
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 12:03am #
Also, it's not "Shot Through the Heart," it's "You Give Love a Bad Name." And I do know all the lyrics. 😉

Oh man, there are some memories coming back. How about "You could watch He-man and *not* think about how incrediably gay he was"?
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 1:32am #
(not that there's anything wrong with that)
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 1:40am #
I, uh, must've missed something. The only ones that register with me are 1, 17, 25, 28, 36, 37, 40, 43, and 52. Some are things I can relate to tangentially -- I had Pound Puppies but never watched a TV show about them; I remember the music video for some DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince song but I don't remember the words; I watched Duck Tales a bit on lazy middle school afternoons but don't remember how the theme song went; I played a lot of Oregon Trail but never had a specific day for it; I vaguely remember JEM being a cartoon but never saw it and don't recall anyone talking about it; I remember friendship bracelets but don't recall anyone thinking they were anything special beyond being things that we made ourselves; and 90210 was something my older sister cared about, not me.
For what it's worth, Burger King birthday parties were way better than McDonald's birthday parties.
26 was a late-90's thing. And I didn't see Saved by the Bell until high school.
What's 80's-specific about Red Rover?
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 1:43am #
I also really don't understand how anyone can discuss growing up in the 80's without mentioning Cabbage Patch Kids or Garbage Pail Kids, or Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo.
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 2:22am #
weird that you're five years older, but I still remember all the things you're talking about...
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 9:41am #
I've five years older than Erik, and I barely remember the 80's. Either it's a) I've chosen to forget or b) it's all the cocaine i did that makes me forget.
Seriously, I never thought the New Kids were EVER cool. Besides, where the heck are The Transformers? That was THE coolest toy of the 80's! I still have a bunch on my desk.

80's Kids
You grew up in the eighties if......
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 3:30pm #
This sounds more like for people BORN in the 80s... Not people that really LIVED through them.
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 3:47pm #
I laughed out loud when I got to "41. You've gone through this nodding your head in agreement," since I had been the whole time.
You're three years older than me, but this is still 99.9% accurate.
Posted 08 Dec 2003 at 7:31pm #
You were super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day incomputer class at school
Yeah, but my damn boat always got stuck in the river.

Posted 15 Dec 2003 at 11:21pm #

Posted 19 Dec 2003 at 9:36am #
As a Dad with two young girls, I can tell you that Strawberry Shortcake is mega-popular nowadays... again.
Also, SpongeBob is on Saturday mornings. That should count for something...
Posted 07 Jan 2004 at 8:04pm #
IT"S ALL SOOOOO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!! You know you were born in the eighties if you still watch Saved By the Bell religously every morning at 7:00 and then again at 12 on TBS.

Does anyone remember Miss Molly and her Magic mirror? Popples are back around now, but what about Gummi bears " bouncin' here and there and everywhere"! Barbie cereal was my fave, and remember how cereal box toys were way better than they are now?

Wow! I can relate to so many of the things listed. Especially the one about Saved by the Bell. I knew and still know all the original characters names and their life stories. As a matter of fact, my sister and I used to play house: I would be Kelly Kapalski and Zack Morris would be my boyfriend. She would be Jesse Spano. Hah! Those were definetely the good ol' days.

WUZZLES! What about the Snorks? Does anyone remember those? And I have a dirty little confession - I still have my NKOTB poster and silk pillow - packed away of course - but I still listen to the tapes. And Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby are alive and well! My nieces and nephews use mine now!
Does anyone remember 321 Contact and Ghost Writer, that show that used to be on PBS that took you back in time? We used to watch it all the time in school for "educational purposes"...wow - memories. I think I'll walk into work this morning singing the theme song from Jem...
Posted 20 Aug 2006 at 9:23pm #
