CocoaDevCentral: Up for Grabs

As I prepare for a full day of work on what should be a "day off," I've come to the realization that I simply haven't got the time to run Cocoa Dev Central anymore. So, one of three things can occur:

  1. I sell the site to someone who will maintain it.
  2. I keep the site but turn over control to someone.
  3. I shut down the site entirely.

In the first case, I can easily say that the site makes a hundred or so dollars per month on the Google ads alone, and as it hasn't been updated in quite some time, has the potential to make a lot more than that.

In the second case, as I'd still be hosting the site, any profits made would be split between the new caretaker and myself (probably 75/25).

The third case is simply disappointing.

Anyone interested in options one or two? Let me know by comment here (leave an email address - a URL will cover it up from spambots entirely, but will provide it to me) or email (see the bottom left of this page for my address).

  1. I might be interested in #2, depending on what exactly is entailed. Drop me an email, and we can discuss it.

  2. Might be interested in option #1. Contact me.

  3. I'm interested in #2, I think.

  4. I have started plotting a Cocoa-Java site along the same lines, so whom ever takes it over I would love to toss in a hand

  5. CocoaDevCentral has been an invaluable resource to me over the last year or two as I taught myself to program OS X. It would be a real shame for it to go away. I'd be interested in option #2.

  6. I sure hope that option three never happens. I've learned a lot from that site and it would be a shame to no loner have it as a resource.

  7. Even if you didn't find a suitable buyer or administrator, why shut it down. Even up as an archive of what once was it would still hold value. Obviously the cost of keeping it up isn't an issue since it has a positive cash flow.

Here's to hoping we never see number three.

  8. Hi, if you are still looking for someone to run the site, I would be interested.

  9. I too am interested. 🙂

I've been a fan of the site for a while. In fact, just recommended today on macosx-dev.

  10. I'd be interested, depending on how much time/effort #2 would entail.

  11. I sold Cocoa Dev Central to Scott Stevenson back in December because I found myself with a startling lack of free time. The content was languishing, the design was poor, and the site was suffering. Scott has been working for...
