QotD: Cartoon

Question: What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?

My Answer: G.I. Joe was the typical boy thing, He-Man, and the lamer Gummi Bears, Snorks, Grape Ape, etc. I can't say I have a favorite, and I am not even sure I cared for cartoons beyond the age of four or five either.

  1. Transformers rock!

  2. Roadrunner! ACME was the best. 🙂

  3. Saturday Morning on ABC they showed 60-90 minutes of Warner Brothers cartoons for many years. Usually from the Golden Era of the mid 50s to late 60s.

They stopped doing it sometime in the early 90s. Which eliminated any personal desire to get up early on Saturday mornings.

XMen was pretty good. The original Justice League and Fantastic Four were also good.

As far as modern stuff goes, Simpsons doesn't really count since it's in primetime, but I am somewhat embarrased to say I like Kim Possible. It's like Buffy becomes Jane Bond. By no means perfect (it's Disney after all), but I still enjoy it.

  4. Transformers, Thundercats and GI Joe were the main ones for me. Silverhawks was a big one for me too. Does anyone rememeber Tigersharks?

I still watch cartoons. I usually find them more clever than the other stuff. They're not trying to desperately hard to be important, and they're usually less predictable. I'd be fine if I never saw another sitcom, reality show or cop drama.

As far as I'm concerned, Adult Swim is one of the few reasons to turn on the TV. I watch Kim Possible occassionally, mostly because I find the art style sort of interesting. Dave the Barbarian is hilarious.

I think Samurai Jack really is one of the most creatives shows on any channel at any time. It will go for 20 minutes without a single line of dialog, but it totally works because the visuals tell the story. It's brilliant and gorgeous.

  5. Hmm...I think I will go for Thundercats. What happen to the cartoon now?

  6. Bloom County!!!
