QotD: Water

Question: How far do you live from an appreciable source of water? What's the ideal distance?

My Answer: Like most apartment complexes in Florida, mine has a pond. If that doesn't count, a slightly bigger "lake"* is 1/4 mile away, and the Atlantic Frickin' Ocean is about three.

I'd love to live right on the ocean. Y'know, if I had $600,000 or so to spare.

* I grew up on Lake Erie, so these 20-acre lakes really don't look like more than a pond to me.

  1. The house I'm trying to buy is about 3/4 of a mile from Long Island Sound. You're never more than about 10 miles from a major body of water on Long Island.

  2. When it rains my street turns into a river and we have a lake in the middle of our complex 🙂

Seriously, I'm 2 miles from the beach at Lauderdale by the Sea, plus lots of small lakes & canals within 1/4 mile. My old condo was right on Middle River.

  3. I live a couple of miles from Puddingstone Lake, a man-made reservoir. It happens to be a very close to Raging Waters theme park as well (water, water everywhere, but none to drink.) =)

  4. Water? What is water? I live in an island, but water is kinda far from here. Maybe a few miles.

Ohh and Erik, as part of the love in, I want to tell you that I love your blog because of the QoTD. Thats one of the main reasons...

  5. I grew up about 3 houses from lake Erie outside of Buffalo. It was a great place to be a kid, and I kind of miss it. Now I live 10-15 miles away from lake Ontario, but it might as well be 1000 miles for all I see of it.

I guess that my answer would be less than 100 meters.

(I tried to use the less-than symbol and it got interpreted as an opening tag - doh!)
