Las Vegas was renewed some time ago. It was announced as part of NBC's official schedule as well. You got bad info. See this and this.

I was going by the fact that my TiVo listed "Series, Season Finale" in the description.

Whew! You had me worried. Las Vegas is at the top of my watch list, I thought it was canceled. I had to resort to some web searching to see what was up. I also liked fastlane and was bummed to see it go. It was the season finale, not the series.
